Dr Callyn Farrell PhD | BPsycScHons (class1)
Postdoctoral Research Fellow,
The University of Queensland
I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at The University of Queensland.

My research sits at the intersection of social and developmental psychology, examining how children and adolescents make sense of the social world through connectedness, participation, gender, and social-cognitive development. I focus on how everyday conversations, interactions, and environments shape young people’s experiences of belonging, loneliness, identity, and wellbeing.

I completed my Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) and PhD at the University of Queensland and now work as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Social Identity and Groups Network. My work involves close collaboration with families, schools, and community organisations, reflecting a strong commitment to child-centred and socially engaged research.

Outside academia, I am deeply involved in orchid conservation and community leadership. I am a judge with both the Australian Orchid Council and the Australasian Native Orchid Society (ANOS), where I served as an elected board member and Vice President from 2016–2023.
Research Interests
My research interests are in social and developmental psychology, with a focus on connectedness, participation, and the development of gender and social cognition. I examine how children and adolescents understand themselves and others, and how everyday interactions and environments shape their experiences of belonging, identity, and wellbeing. I completed my Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) and PhD at the University of Queensland, where I developed a strong foundation in child-centred, socially engaged developmental research. My research is primarily conducted within the Social Identity and Groups Network and The Early Cognitive Development Centre.
